Four Reasons to Replace the Plumbing on Your Horse Property

Posted on

If the plumbing on your horse property is old, it might be time to work with a plumber to have the pipes replaced. Repiping of old plumbing is important on horse properties becasue of the four reasons listed below.

1. Prevent Pipes from Bursting

For one thing, the plumbing pipes on a horse property can be even more prone to freezing than those inside of a home. This is because the pipes on your horse property might be exposed to colder temperatures than the plumbing pipes that are used in your home, particularly if your horse barn is not heated. Insulating pipes helps, but if you have a lot of plumbing pipes—such as if you have a big horse property—then insulating all of them might be difficult. Newer types of plumbing pipes, such as PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) pipes, can still freeze when temperatures get low, so insulating them is still a good idea. However, they should not burst if they do freeze. This can help you prevent expensive damage when temperatures drop.

2. Conserve Water

You probably already use a lot of water on your horse property. After all, a lot of water is needed for watering the horses, cleaning, and more. You might want to reduce water use on your horse property when you can, though. Replacing old pipes that might leak with newer pipes is a good way to conserve water.

3. Maintain a Reliable Water Supply

You do not want to find yourself without a water supply on your horse property. After all, your horses need water to drink, and you probably have chores to do. Older plumbing can be more likely to fail than newer plumbing, potentially leaving your property without a water supply until you're able to have a plumber come out and fix the problem. Replacing old, faulty plumbing now can help you enjoy a reliable water supply on your horse property.

4. Prevent Standing Water

Lastly, if you have a lot of leaks because of your older plumbing, there might be standing water on your property. This can lead to a muddy mess on your property, for one thing. Plus, the standing water can attract pests like mosquitoes, which can annoy both humans and horses that use your property. Newer plumbing that does not leak will help you reduce the standing water problem that you might be currently having on your horse property.
