Plumbing problems can be a nightmare, but you might be able to prevent most common plumbing issues by performing a checklist for plumbing maintenance. Look under all sinks for potential leaks

While some water leaks from pipes can occur inside hidden areas of your homes, such as the walls, a lot of plumbing leaks happen in areas that you can actually see. One such area is below your sinks. If you examine underneath your sinks each year, you will likely catch leaks right when they are first starting to form, and this is a great way to avoid major water damage in your house. If you see any dripping or signs of water in these areas, contact a plumber for repairs.  

Run all faucets to detect slow-moving drains

Secondly, you should test all faucets in your home to ensure that they are moving freely. You can do this either by running the water in each one or by pouring a bucket of water down each drain. If you sense some restriction in the movement of the water going down the drain, contact a plumber, as there is likely debris beginning to form in your drainpipes.

Examine around your toilets for leaks

A third thing to examine is your toilets. Toilets often leak, yet the leaks are very small and hard to see. If you get down on the floor and flush your toilet, you will be able to see if even a small amount of water is leaking from the base. If so, you should have a plumber fix the toilet to prevent wasting water and water damage.

Get your septic tank pumped every two years

Finally, you should make sure you get on a schedule for septic tank pumping every two years or so. This is just a good habit to be in as this will help you prevent plumbing issues in your house.

When you are inspecting your system, you should contact a plumber if you see any type of issue with any of the parts of this system. By doing this, a plumber can examine the system and locate potential problems, and this is a great way to avoid major plumbing issues in your home.
